Three members of our family participated in the Santa Cruz Triathlon this morning. Congratulations to Ken, Jon and Dave who all finished within their goal times. And big congratulations to all the participants and finishers of this years race. Besides the physical aspect of finishing a race such as a triathlon, “the Santa Cruz Triathlon is a non-profit event. Last year the race donated nearly $50,000 back to the Santa Cruz community. Proceeds from the event are donated to Santa Cruz County High School athletic programs, the UC Santa Cruz Swim Program, Cabrillo College Athletics, Santa Cruz Track Club, Santa Cruz Triathlon Association and Long Marine Lab. These organizations receive donations from the race and provide volunteers on the course. Your participation is greatly appreciated!”
With the rain holding off until the afternoon, it was perfect race weather. Not cold. Not hot. I know, it’s easy for me to say, I was just a spectator, but I was quite comfortable hanging out for nearly 3 hours.
SWIM (1.5K) A brisk ocean swim around the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf. Water temperature is usually in the mid 50’s, so wetsuits are strongly recommended.
BIKE (40K) A challenging out-and-back ride via city streets and coastal Highway 1. The turnaround is located in the historic coastal town of Davenport.
