Renee Whiting Photography-Santa Cruz, CA Photographer » Santa Cruz, CA Newborn and Child Photographer

  • Welcome to Renee Whiting Photography

Hi and welcome to my blog!

I'm a photographer in Santa Cruz, CA, specializing in Newborns through Pre-K. I love my sessions with the little ones and hope it shows in my work. If you like what you see, I hope you'll use the "contact" button and drop me an email so we can get a session scheduled for you. Please be aware that I spend a good deal of time in Santa Barbara (my sweet grand-babies are there), so don't wait till the last minute to book your session. If you are interested in scheduling a newborn session, please contact me approx. a month before your due date and I'll "pencil" you in.

I am excited to announce the opening of my new studio! It is located in Scotts Valley in the Camp Evers Center. It is bright, fun and very kid friendly!!

And, for those of you who might be wondering (or are a bit confused), I'm still Nana at Nana's Empty Nest. I just came to the realization that I really missed photographing the little ones, and decided to put more of my focus back into photography. I'll still be posting the occasional recipe, etc. And, all of Nana's old posts can be found under the "category" tab under Nana's Empty Nest.

Give me a call, I'd love to see you and your little one(s).
    Blessings,
    Renee

J & C at the Beach~Santa Cruz Photographer

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting up with J & C down at the beach for a session. They are doing these as a surprise gift for their parents (thanks to their Aunt and Cousin for arranging such a great gift)!

These two were full of personality! It didn’t take them long to warm up and once they did they were just plain silly! Typical siblings!

Here’s a few of the sillyness, when they were “fishing” and then a more traditional B&W. By the way, I love the “smiling” shot, but man oh man, as silly as they were, they were a smidge tight on their smiles!

I hope you like your sneak peak and I’ll have the rest of your gallery completed in a few days.

The T Family~Santa Cruz Photographer

Thank you T family for allowing me to spend some time with you today! It was such a pleasure meeting you and your two little guys! They are both adorable! I especially enjoyed John’s zest and enthusiasm! I didn’t blame him a bit for not wanting to sit still for long…….he was at a park and there were trains, and water towers and ponds and fishing, and….. two year old boys will be two year old boys!!  John, thank you for my lesson in Thomas the Train!  And what a little sweetheart Jackson was, not a peep out of him all morning! I didn’t even mind being belly down in the wet grass to get the shot when he decided it was nap time!!

Here’s a little “sneak peak” for you!

Couples Session~Santa Cruz Photographer

If you had asked me last week what my “least” favorite thing to photograph was, I probably would have said adults! Boring! No fun! Not fun to pose! Etc, etc, etc! I’ve been shooting a lot of newborn sessions lately and I just love babies so much that even though those session are a lot of work, I look forward to them. And the challenge of toddlers excites me! But how was I going to loosen up this couple so the photos didn’t turn out too posed?

Shake it off Renee! Get out of your car and go meet them! After all, Lynn seemed nice enough on the phone.

Let’s just say, instant connection!! They had a nice home, were friendly and casually stylish! Even Ron didn’t seem to mind that Lynn had scheduled a session for the two of them. Ok, it’s going good……

……but, then they invited me in to see all their “photo walls” and to see their most recent photos of their cutie-patootie grand-daughters! They were professional portraits done by an out of town photographer and they raved and raved about how much they loved them!  OK, talking about pressure!! I don’t like shooting adults and now I have to meet or exceed the expectations put on me by the other photographer! Oh my goodness!

They bought my session at a benefit fundraising auction and I was there to take photos of them, so we headed into their yard. I will admit to having thoughts of, “well, I might as well get this over with!”

Fortunately to my delight,  I ended up by LOVING this session!! Ron and Lynn, you are just an adorable couple! I loved your kindness, sense of humor, the love that you share and your property is every photographers dream location!

Here’s a little “sneak peak” for you. I hope I didn’t disappoint! I’ll have the rest of your gallery ready for you in a few days!

Adrianne - November 16, 2009 - 7:07 am

Fan-freakin’-tastic, lady!! I love these shots. I admit, reading about your misgivings, I wondered how they would be but wow! You don’t disappoint, you acheive. Love them especially them with their dog. So natural and real. Great job!!

Lynn & Ron - November 16, 2009 - 8:59 am

Wow! I woke up to these pictures this morning and couldn’t wait to show them to Ron! We LOVE them! I also wondered when you said you didn’t do adults, just how it would go. But we felt comfortable with you, it was very casual, and you even seemed to enjoy Ron’s sense of humor. Great job, we can’t wait to see more…..

Christina Rainey - November 16, 2009 - 12:18 pm

Lily Joy~Santa Cruz Newborn Photographer

Sweet Sweet Lily Joy!  Life does not always start out as expected, as was the case for Lily and her parents. Her parents delight quickly turned to their worst nightmare soon after her birth. A healthy pregnancy and routine delivery should equal excitement as your newborn is placed in your arms minutes after delivery but instead Lily was rushed off to the NICU. Precious little Lily had a partially collapsed lung! Could you imagine hearing those words? Could you imagine not holding your newborn? Not being able to nurse her right away? And going home without your baby?

Turns out Lily was going to meet and beat any expectations the Dr. put on her! Way to go Lily!!

She is now healthy and at home with her parents and growing by leaps and bounds. At just one week old, she’s already gained 11 oz!

Congratulations Rob & Jilly, you are truly blessed!

Here’s Lily at just 8 days old!
