  • Welcome to Renee Whiting Photography

Hi and welcome to my blog!

I'm a photographer in Santa Cruz, CA, specializing in Newborns through Pre-K. I love my sessions with the little ones and hope it shows in my work. If you like what you see, I hope you'll use the "contact" button and drop me an email so we can get a session scheduled for you. Please be aware that I spend a good deal of time in Santa Barbara (my sweet grand-babies are there), so don't wait till the last minute to book your session. If you are interested in scheduling a newborn session, please contact me approx. a month before your due date and I'll "pencil" you in.

I am excited to announce the opening of my new studio! It is located in Scotts Valley in the Camp Evers Center. It is bright, fun and very kid friendly!!

And, for those of you who might be wondering (or are a bit confused), I'm still Nana at Nana's Empty Nest. I just came to the realization that I really missed photographing the little ones, and decided to put more of my focus back into photography. I'll still be posting the occasional recipe, etc. And, all of Nana's old posts can be found under the "category" tab under Nana's Empty Nest.

Give me a call, I'd love to see you and your little one(s).
    Blessings,
    Renee

Sylvie

Not all newborn photographers will take a newborn session when the baby is a month old. The preferable age (for sleepiness and flexible curled poses) is under two weeks of age. I, however, can never seem to say no. Often parents haven’t thought about newborn photos or are too overwhelmed to even think about booking a session. I know that a family will cherish their newborn photos, whether they’re 10 days or 30 days old. I always explain that we might not get some of the poses or that some of the props might be too small (depending on the size of their little one), but that we’ll do what we can.

Sylvie was a perfect example of a one month old session. She slept like a champ!

Here’s a little peek of her session.

Enjoy.

Little Diego

At just 6 days old, Diego came to visit me at the studio for his newborn photos. He is such a tiny little thing, but, oh so adorable!! His hair and his dimples and his eyelashes are seriously stunning!

I just adore this family. Beautiful. All of them. Inside and out.

The Perfect Partnership

Wow, exactly ONE year to the day (and I didn’t plan that), I posted about opening my own little photo studio. You might remember this post, MY NEW STUDIO.

It was a great little space, but fast forward about 6 months and I brought in a studio partner, Aimee of AIMEE POOL PHOTOGRAPHY. Along with Aimee came a lot more props and great ideas! We often chatted about what a dream studio would look like, but rents are high in SC and we continued to plug away in our over crowded little space. Until, one day, way across the parking lot, a unit in our center became available. It was a corner location, double the size,  with great natural light (things we currently didn’t have). We hmmm’ed and hawww’d about “what if…..”  I didn’t take it too seriously, but Aimee did!

So, with another “handshake” agreement, we agreed that she’d take on the new lease and I’ve give up my small space. We were partners once again!!

Thank you Aimee, from the bottom of my heart, for taking what I had and making it bigger and better!! You did a beautiful job and I look forward to watching both our businesses grow in our beautiful new studio!!

And of course, we must thank our husbands, who have continued to support our little businesses and put up with our crazy dreams, our family and friends for all the help and support (in the old studio and new) and of course, our clients!

It is seriously adorable and functional! We can shoot both studio and natural light. We have multiple shooting areas, including our new white bed. We have a comfortable sitting area complete with snacks, a changing table, and toys for the little ones.

We have backdrops galore. Wagons, trikes and airplanes. Baskets, bins and bowls. Blankets and wraps. Pettis, ties, rompers and tutus. Hats for both boys and girls. Baubles and beads. Headbands and bows.

Here’s a little peek…. cute, isn’t it?

There’s a saying that a “picture is worth a 1000 words,” maybe so, but sometimes I think you need to group a few together, such as with this StoryBoard to get the full story!
