Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cake

This is a perfect cake for the fall season! Thanks for the recipe Paula Deen.  I think it goes without saying, that if this is a Paula Deen recipe, there is nothing light about it. It is full of everything bad for you, but OH SO YUMMY! If you like pumpkin pie, you will love this!

Give it a try this holiday season and worry about the calories later.

Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cake


  • Cake:
  • 1 package yellow cake mix
  • 1 egg
  • 8 TBL butter (melted)
  • Filling:
  • 1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 15 oz. can pumpkin
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 8 TBL butter (melted)
  • 1 16-ounce box powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg


  1. Preheat oven to 350º
  2. Combine cake mix, egg and butter. Mix well with electric mixer. Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13x9" baking pan.
  3. To make the filling: In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and pumpkin until smooth. Add the eggs, vanilla and butter and beat together. Next, add the powdered sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and mix well. Spread the pumpkin mixture over the cake batter.
  4. Bake for 40-50 minutes. Make sure not to overbake as the center should be a little gooey.
  5. Serve with fresh whipped cream.
