This blog post is a bit late, as these little guys came to my MiniStudio nearly two weeks ago. Life got busy, along with me being out of town, but I’m back and will have your session finished very soon now!

If you look up “busy” in the dictionary I believe you will see 2 year old Evan’s picture right next to the definition! He had no time to sit for photos, there was way to much to see and do! We were lucky to capture a few calm moments and even got a little eye contact! Baby brother on the other hand, was as calm and peaceful as you’d hope for!

And, in case you’re wondering, we didn’t even attempt to get any of the two of them together… Big Brother is still settling into the idea that Little Ryan is here to stay! I have no doubt that in no time they will be best of buddies (double trouble) but in the meantime, it’s hands off for Evan!

Yo Gabba Gabba + Trucks + Texas A&M + Candy = Santiago’s favorite things! Sounds just about perfect for a two year old and even more perfect if you knew Santiago! Two year old sessions are so much fun (if you can keep up with them)! They have just enough patience to sit still for one or two shots and then it’s time to move on. That’s where the truck, the candy and “the silly’s” really helped, allowing us just a couple more minutes before we were off to discover something new!

To Grandma Robin and Santiago’s Mom, thank you for being persistent in finally getting this session scheduled! It was great seeing you both and I look forward to many more! I hope you enjoy your little sneak peak and I will be in touch as soon as I finish the rest.

Look Who’s One!~Santa Cruz Newborn and Child Photographer

I don’t even know where to begin to describe how wonderful this past year has been. I can only say that if you are a parent or grandparent, that you have an idea!

One year ago tonight, I received the most wonderful phone call of all! A phone call that would change our lives and bless us like you can’t even imagine! It was my son-in-law and he said something to the affect of, “this is it, we’re headed to the hospital, meet us there.” And my daughter in the background saying something more to the affect of, “you’re right, I’ll know when I’m in labor!!”

Ok, sobbing like a baby after watching his birth video………..back to the regular scheduled blog post……..

One year ago, at 1:54 pm, Beckett James McManigal was born.

Beckett,

You’re our first grandbaby and the sweetest of little boys. It has been a joy, a pleasure and a blessing to watch you grow this year. And grow you have! You’ve gone from a sleepy little newborn, where for hours on end we would just hold you and stare at your sweet little face. Before we knew it you were crawling and loving all your toys, especially books, balls and duckies! You became so active that the only time you’d sit still was bottle time. You’re now walking, talking a few words, eating anything and everything and quite the big boy! You love being outside, you love the beach, the pool, balls, the slide and the birds! As much as you’ve blessed our lives, you too are blessed! You have a Mommy & Daddy that love you like you can’t even imagine, lots and lots of Aunts & Uncles, Grandma & Grandpa, Papa & Me and lots and lots of friends! Beck, I know I can speak for everyone when I say “I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around your neck!!”

Perfectly Adorable~Santa Cruz Children’s Photographer

And…….BUSY…….and……..SO MUCH FUN!!! That totally describes my session with my two new little friends, Taylin & Kian. Ok, maybe Kian doesn’t know he’s my new friend, but I’m pretty sure that Taylin had fun. In fact, when it was time to leave she wanted to know if I could go to Subway with them for lunch. When I told her I couldn’t because I had to go take pictures of two other little girls, her reply was simply, “well, then I’ll go with you!” Taylin was such a little cutie, in fact her personality was as big as her eyes! And Kian was just so mellow and content the entire time, not a peep out of him. The session went exactly how you’d imagine a session with a 2 1/2 year old and 4 month old would go…….crazy! Mom really wanted a few shots of them together. Ummm, ok, good luck with that! By the time we got Baby K propped where we wanted him, we’ have to round up Tay to get her into the picture. By the time she got her wiggles out, Baby K would have slipped out of position. We’d fix him and T would be gone! I’m telling you we had to work fast on those shots. And then, getting smiles (or even eye contact) from both of them at the same time was nearly impossible! All in all, there were more giggles than wiggles, and that’s a good thing! Here’s a little sneak peak of our wiggly session!

Sweet Baby William~Santa Cruz Baby Photographer

Not quite a newborn, William came for his session at 7 weeks old.

There are definitely benefits as to why “newborn sessions” need to be done within the first two weeks, because as we soon learned, 7 week olds don’t fall into that “milk-drunk” pose me as you’d like deep deep sleep. Normally once a newborn falls into that deep sleep, you can pose them, take the shots, move them, pose them again and do this for quite a few shots before they’ll wake back up. Not a 7 week old! He was awake for most of the session and was a mover! His little arms and legs were moving the entire time, making it a little difficult to pose him, because he’d move right out of the pose before I could get the shot off. We did get him to “snooze” a few times, but as soon as we’d move him into a new pose, he’d wake right up.

Thankfully, however, his parents were extremely patient and we did outlast him and managed to get a good variety of shots! I hope you enjoy your little sneak peak!

Congratulations S. Family, your new little son is absolutely beautiful!

Faces of Momo~Santa Cruz Children’s Photographer

Simone (or as her family calls her, Momo) was a little stingy with her smiles today, but that’s fine by me! First it’s a great challenge for me, just to see how silly I can be, to see if I can get any and second, I don’t think it takes a smile to make a great photo and thirdly, it’s a great opportunity to make a “Faces of StoryBoard!” I’ve been wanting to make up one of these for a while, but never felt like I had just the right session…..until Momo!!!

And a few more just because…… Doesn’t she have the most gorgeous hair for a 2 year old? And her eyes are amazing! I mean come on, really, who needs smiles???

New Favorites~Santa Cruz Baby Photographer

Mr. Beckett was in town a couple weeks ago, so of course I had to grab a few shots in my new MINIstudio! We had to out number him 4 to 1 to keep him corralled. Many thanks to his Mama, Aunt & Cousin for all their help! He is a busy busy boy, so we had to work fast! Thankfully the blocks and toy airplane did hold his attention for a few minutes.

I ended up with a ’series’ of block shots and made a StoryBoard using four of them. It turned out very cute and will be a great studio sample! Then, since I LOVE the airplane shot, I finally ordered a gallery wrapped canvas! My only regret is that I should have ordered a larger one! The airplane shot is just so Beckett, he’s Mr Serious and this shot is perfectly him!!
